7 Richmond St. House: Haverhill, MA

April 26, 2010

A few folks have been asking: where is the house that Mr. Adams picked up and turned around because of a disagreement with his neighbor?

The answer is: the house at 7 Richmond St., Haverhill, MA, moved by John Frederick Adams (Generation #9).

7 Richmond St

I am not 100% sure, but an informal search has identified this house (pictured above), which fits details documented by Garry Adams in 2000 in the following ways:

  • Faces away from the street
  • Aerial view shows a body of water that may have been a pool (or pond)

However, it differs from Garry’s description in that she noted:

  • The pillars on the house were gone
  • The house had been turned into a duplex

The real estate listing above states that the house was built in 1900, and is a Single Family property.

Efforts to verify the location of John Frederick’s house at 7 Richmond St. are being made by following up with the Haverhill Public Library. (The source of this story was Librarian, Gregory Laing.)

Sadly, it appears to have been foreclosed and is up for sale!

    Hi,

I happened to find this website as I was browsing. I owned the house at 7 Richmond St. Haverhill, Ma . from 1997-2009. The house is not a duplex and I had the porch added. When I bought the house, the original porch was gone and there was only a deck. There are original photos at the library but it is difficult to see the entire porch. Also, according to the records I received, the house was built in 1897. The architects names were listed but I can’t remember the names. I have this info in storage. If you have any questions about the house, please feel free to contact me. Thanks.

My name is Steven Long. My parents bought that house in 1972 or 3 for 23,000 dollars. It was and likely still is haunted. When my parents owned it, it was 23 rooms; 13 bedrooms, 4 fireplaces. My dad and i made novelity caskets in the basement. It was big enough to target practice with handguns in the basement. Longstevenj@gmail.com

If you want to know about the house I can help you, I lived in it. My parents bought it when I was 15 ( I am now 60). It was a single family. It was turned around, the porch in your picture was added after we owned it. It is close to 12,000 sq ft, 13 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 4 fireplaces and HAUNTED…. I mean haunted. BTW my name is Steven Long, my parents bought that in 1973 (I think) for 23k. And yes it did have a pool. My mother put that in after the death of my father in 1979
